Procrastination and Wildflowers
That’s the first step to procrastinating; a gentle dose of blame; good humored, preferably.
Second, deflect attention away from the real cause — your problem of putting things off — and toward things that “matter.”
Third, you must elevate the importance of all the things you’d rather do, especially if they are not of immediate importance. Take all phone calls, write your grandmother, clean out your sock drawer, sort photos, whatever it takes to avoid the inevitable.
In my case the inevitable falls on April 15th. How I detest filing, taxes, receipts, TurboTax, and all things related to that fateful date! Oh well; as Benjamin Franklin said, “In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes.”
Maybe a better quote is attributed to Will Rogers: “The only difference between death and taxes is that death doesn’t get worse every time Congress meets.” (check out other timeless quotes by Will Rogers.)
In any case, the wildflowers are in full glorious bloom here in the Hill Country. After a couple of years of drought, their roadside appearance is anything but certain, but the rains last winter made all the difference. So Viola! in the midst of my little tax hissy-fit, I have found time to go out to the front ditch and photograph them for you. Yes, I squeezed that important task into my day just for you…No problem; I have plenty of time.
