Never Underestimate the American Workforce

freeenterpriselogoThe Chamber of Commerce rolled out their Free Enterprise America campaign this month with the goal of getting small businesses to pledge their help in creating 20 million jobs in the next ten years.

On the website, the Chamber asks small business owners to provide video describing what the free enterprise system means to them. Seeing real small business owners in their element talking about their businesses is more inspiring and reassuring than any politician’s speech about how the government is going to “rescue” our nation’s economy.

Never underestimate the American workforce.

When you watch the videos of these folks, just imagine how they carved out a few minutes from their extremely busy days to shoot the video, and then moved on to the next task of the day. Besides receiving a little advice from business people — like getting a mentor, seeking out smarter people than you, treating employees and customers like family, and how having dogs in the office relieves stress (really) – you can enjoy putting the faces on the engine that is the only real hope for our economy: Free Enterprise.

One of my personal goals is to be able to, if not hire people myself, help business owners to hire and keep new employees, and grow their own businesses in the next few years. The goal of 20M is broken down by state; Texas’ is 2,162,359 new jobs. Better get busy.
