Hey, That’s My Niche!
This guy, Jan Vorrman, found his niche — literally. He goes around the world filling in cracks and crevices in buildings and walls. But not with stucco or bricks of clay. Vormann looks at those wall chinks in a playful way, and then artistically fills them with Lego bricks.
Now we’ve all seen Legos, and we’ve all seen walls that need repair. The connection between them is the big story here. “Of course!” the passer-by smiles. “Toy building blocks to fix the ravages of time on permanent structures.” Out of nowhere, the tired old walls are transformed with color and childlike handiwork, and the pedestrian spirit is lifted.
The creative mind is full of these connections. The best ideas are the ones that seem so obvious after they are introduced.
What are you thinking about as you idle? Do you ever take a minute to notice something average in a new light? Do you ever scrutinize the ordinary? If “God is in the details,” as architect Mies van der Rohe said, what are the details you overlook daily, that are waiting to be transformed by you and your business?
Only YOU will know your niche when you see it. The rest of us are waiting to see what you come up with.
