Dress for Success
If you are planning on starting your own business, you know that there are a lot of things to do, to plan and to manage. But one often overlooked item is what you wear on your first day of your new business.
If your new business has you meeting customers at their homes, or offices then of course I bet you will be wearing a suite or nice dress clothes. Let me say this, you had better dress professional.
If you are starting a business that keeps you at home for many days of the week, and only once in a while you go see customers or prospects, what do you wear? Well if you have worked in a corporate job for the past many years, you wear exactly what you have wore. That means if you use to wear a suit, wear one, business casual then that is what you wear.
Dressing sharp while you are are your home business will cause your mind to focus on the job and not let you slack off.
Of course if your new business requires you to go out in the field so to speak, then get embroidered shirts/tops. This is money well spent.
I remember one business I knew, the owners required all of their employees and all of their equipment to look very professional. His trucks were well painted and his workers all wore uniforms. He looked like a very professional business. And sure enough he had the business because his clients also thought he ran his business like a business. His business was drilling, so he and his team got dirty. Did not matter to him, everyone had to look good at the beginning of the day.
So keep your old worn jeans for cleaning the house, or washing the car. But when you start your day at your new job, dress like it is a real business. And soon enough it will pay you like a real business.

Not that there’s anything wrong with long pajamas. (ahem.)
I have worked from home for over 10 years now and I have to agree…it is so easy to not stay focused that dressing the part at home does make a difference.
